2008 Sequim Wolfpups Football
Safety

A Note to Parents: There is a common belief that football players get serious injuries. At the youth level that Wolfpups participates in, this is not true. According to Youth Sports Magazine, football is rated as the youth sport with the lowest percentage of injuries, when compared to baseball (highest), soccer (#2), and basketball (#3). In the last 14 years, Wolfpups Football has had a total of five season ending injuries that occurred during football practices or games. All others occurred while the player was at school, on bicycles or skateboards, and, yes, even walking through their own front door! This incredible safety record is attributed to Wolfpups Football keeping the uniforms and protective equipment in good condition, a philosophy of physical fitness in the players to help prevent injuries, and a “safety first” policy involving all practice and game activities. Wolfpups Football strongly encourages parents to not let the fear of injury prevent their child from participating in youth football.

“Having played from the age of eight through High School, and coaching for 19 years, I am convinced that nowhere in youth sports can a child learn more about what it takes to be a successful and contributing member of our community than on the gridiron of youth football.” - Jeff Hall, Head Coach, Sequim Wolfpups Football

PHYSICALS: The SYFA requires that all participants undergo a pre-participation physical once every two years before receiving their football equipment and begin practicing with the team. Physicals should be provided by your primary care provider, but is acceptable from any qualified health professional. It must carry through the entire season (dated no sooner than November, two years prior to the current calendar year). Please use the Physical Form provided here (you will need Adobe Reader to view this form; use the link below to download this software for free.)

HAIR: Beginning with the 2008 season, the SYFA will implement a restriction on hair length. Players must keep hair length short enough as to not interfere with the proper fit of the helmet. At no time will a player be allowed to have hair length such that it excessively extends into the face cavity of the helmet or out the back/sides of the helmet as to go beyond the collar of the game jersey. Players may wear "skull caps" (black, elasticized caps, not "dew rags" or bandanas) to help prevent hair from obscuring their vision. Players who habitually exhibit long hair problems will be referred to the Head Coach who will consult with the player's parents/guardians to remedy the situation.
